Legendary Vincent builder Patrick Godet has died.

Long-time friend Fritz W Egli announced Godet's passing on his Facebook page.

A post by Egli Vincent Motorcycles on 27 November read:

"It is with great sadness that the entire Vincent community just learned about the premature death of Patrick Godet. In these painful moments, our thoughts and prayers go to his family and loved ones. According Patrick's last wishes, his funerals will take place in a strict intimacy [privacy]."

Nippon Classic.com online magazine writes:

Patrick Godet specialised in the restoration and reconstruction of Vincent and Egli-Vincent machines. Early on, Godet developed a great passion for the traditional English brand, having been a member of the Vincent Owners Club since 1974 and founding the French office for which he also organised rallies. In 1979 he raced a Vincent Black Lightning he had converted in prestigious Classic races. With several victories in England and on the European mainland, he went on to become an unforgettable name in the racing scene of the 1980s.

In the early 1990s, Godet imported a number of Vincents and spare parts from Argentina and opened a workshop dedicated to the restoration of the machines. The restoration of an Egli-Vincent finally brought him into contact with Fritz Egli. The Swiss was so impressed by Godet's work that he allowed him to offer the Godet machines with the suffix "Egli-Vincent".  Godet revives the Egli-Vincent myth, which goes back to Egli's famous frame construction with the central tube, in his workshop in the northern French town of Rouen.  Today his workshop offers the complete redesign of the Vincent and Egli-Vincent street machines as well as single and two-cylinder racing machines.

Godet then established the only French factory team to compete in veteran races with specially designed Vincent classics. Riders included Bruno Leroy and Lancelot Unissard, who competed with the GODET 500 Flash and the GODET Racer 500 at, among others, the Bikers Classic at Spa-Francorchamps 2015.

Patrick Godet's death is a big loss for the motorcycle world.  We express our sincere condolences to his family and relatives.
