P&L Motorcycles of Alfreton is offering a £5000 cash reward for information leading to the conviction of criminals who ram-raided the premises around 8pm on 9 February and stole £100,000 worth of bikes (See the before and after pictures, right).

“We are still counting the full cost of this break in,” the dealership said on Facebook. “Beware this is happening round the Derbyshire area every week.

“It was a heart-breaking sight to see. The thieves have virtually taken everything … years of hard work gone in less than five minutes. Please can you and all your friends share this in the hope that the low-lives who broke in last night get caught.”

The dealership initially offered a £1000 reward but, speaking to BDN, co-owner Paul Tunnicliffe raised it to £5000.

“They are absolute animals,” he said. “They showed no mercy. Not only did they steal about 20 motorcycles, including five that had been sold and were awaiting collection, they trashed my stock of Yoshimura exhausts. They just trod all over them and they are scrap.”

Tunnicliffe said the thieves used a stolen van to smash through the security shutters and shortly thereafter disabled the CCTV recorder.

He has been overwhelmed by the support from the trade and from Facebook followers and customers. He is not so impressed with the reaction of Derbyshire Constabulary which has not visited the premises and has assigned the case to an officer who is on holiday for a week.

After the initial Facebook post appeared, P&L wrote: “After a few crazy days that we won’t ever forget , all of us at P&L are overwhelmed at the response we have had. Thank you … and we will keep any info up to date as we get it.”

Tunnicliffe and Lance Fretwell set up P&L in 2017. Anyone with any information should contact them on 01773 688686.
